The Wave Crew  Wave Petunias | Cool Wave Pansies

Say hello to the warmer weather... finally! If you’ve been thinking about getting outside and creating a welcoming space with some wonderful colors, why not do it with a few new flower combos? What better way to spruce up your patio or deck than with eye-popping, show-stopping containers!

Finding the right colors
If you haven’t made a container garden before, it’s a great way to get into gardening. Choosing your colors can be the most fun part of the experience! Do you want to go bold? Hint: Red is one of the boldest colors there is! Do you prefer a neutral palette? Easy Wave White Petunias and Easy Wave Silver Petunias grow beautifully together in a grey planter. Do you want to bring out the beauty of your house? Try picking a planter in a color that complements the siding of your home, or even your front door! Wave has a large color selection, so have fun with creating your own style!

Finding the right location
Start by looking at your front porch, patio, or deck. You can even draw it out, sketching where you’ll place your planters. Location is also important because you’ll need to know how much sunlight your plants will be getting every day. This will help with selecting the right flowers for your planters.

Finding the right containers
If you’re not sure how to combine plants for an interesting combination, there is a design concept called: Thriller, Filler and Spiller. You’ll find that using these three different types of plants will create a well-rounded, professional-looking planter no matter your gardening experience.

Thrillers: Thrillers are tall, upright plants that will serve as the centerpiece or backdrop of the planter. It’s easy to find thrillers with bright colors, dramatic leaves or unique shapes (example: angelonia or ornamental grasses). Plant these in the center or near the back of your planter for the best effect.

Fillers: Fillers are medium height plants that cover the base of the thriller and make the container look full. These plants add volume and texture to your planter. When choosing fillers for your planter, try flowers like Wave Petunias, bacopa or calibrachoa.

Spillers: Last but not least, your planter needs a spiller, a vine-like plant that will trail or hang over the side of the container. These plants should be placed close to the edge of the planter so its tendrils can “spill” over the side of the planter. Some popular options for spillers include Cool Wave Pansies, ivy, and trailing lobelia.

Any suggestions for planting the trailing sweet peas I've ordered?? Can I put them in hanging baskets and be done?
