The Wave Crew Wave Petunias | Cool Wave Pansies
To encourage your Wave petunias quickly fill in, stay full, and keep on blooming, here are a few helpful tips.
1. If your porch is quite shady, move container-grown plants into the yard in the morning and back onto the porch in the afternoon so they receive up to six hours of beneficial morning sunlight. If you're planting in the ground, make sure they are planted in full sun.
2. Pinch petunia seedlings back when you plant them. Remove any flowers and as much as one-third of the top growth of the young plant to encourage branching and strong root development.
3. Water petunias in the ground every 7-10 days during dry weather. Container plants may require daily watering to keep the soil moist, but not soggy.
4. Cut plants back several inches in mid-Summer around early July. Water them well and give them some liquid fertilizer or work some time-release fertilizer into the soil before watering. In about two weeks, they’ll be blooming again.
PRO TIP: Preventing leggy petunias requires pruning the branches by one quarter or half on a regular basis. Your petunia plant may be in full bloom when you do this, but it will keep your plant looking full and colorful.
