Trend Prediction: Purples and Dark Blues in the Garden
Ilyin Costello  Wave Team Intern

Want to stay ahead of the trends and keep your garden blooming with fresh colors and interest? Well, the predictions are in. Gardeners forecast dark blues and purples being at the forefront of garden design this year. As we all search for that “true blue”, here are some purple and near blue varieties of petunias to tide you over. We have a lush variety of petunias and pansies that offer dark inky interest or moody light blues to keep your garden up with the times.

Shock Wave® Denim Landscape

Shock Wave® Denim is a petunia that will fade softly in the summer months, just like your favorite pair of blue jeans. In full sun, these petunias will transform from a dark blue-purple to a lighter, near lavender-silver. These flowers are fit for hanging baskets or as a companion plant in mixed flower designs. They won’t overcrowd your other plants, and you’ll have a joy watching them spill along the sides of your containers over the course of the season, almost like your gardens own pair of jorts.

Shock Wave® Purple Tie Dye Bloom

If you’re reminiscing on the colors and vibes of the 1960’s, then Shock Wave Purple Tie Dye is a blast from the past and a must in your garden. These Shock Wave petunias are fit for smaller, intimate containers and will trail out with their bicolor pattern of purple-blue and white flowers to give your container some psychedelic interest. These petunias are perfect for any gardener looking to showcase their creative side, so plant these in a sunny spot in your garden and turn it into a relaxing hippie oasis.

E3 Easy Wave® Sky Blue Pot

E3 Easy Wave® Sky Blue is the perfect petunia to scratch that true-blue itch. When it is planted in a sunny spot you will see the flowers lighten up as the plant matures. These flowers will transform from a darker lavender color to a steely periwinkle blue in full sun. Easy Wave offers a tidy plant structure, but will still fulfill our promise of easy, spreading color in containers or as fillers in garden beds. Pair this petunia with white spiller elements in your containers and dark thrillers to maximize that sky blue hue in your garden.

E3 Easy Wave® Blue Bloom

E3 Easy Wave Blue is the perfect moody petunia for any gardener looking to create some dark accents in their garden. This flower is the most vigorous in our early flowering collection. Warmer climates can see these deep blue flowers as soon as the first frost free date. These deep blue, almost indigo flowers are sure to spark interest whether you plant them in containers or as border plantings. Easy Wave Blue will remain tidy throughout the season and will spread its deep blue interest across bare spots in your garden.

If you’re wanting a flower that’s not quite purple, not quite blue, then Easy Wave® Lavender Sky Blue is the petunia for you! These flowers boast a hazy blue-purple glow that will soften your garden wherever you choose to put them. Easy Wave Petunias grow more mounded than the original Wave® Petunias, which makes them the perfect centerpiece for a sunny garden or container. These petunias can beat the heat and will even deepen in color in cooler conditions or lower light for additional color changing interest.

Stay ahead of the trends with the Wave® Petunia line of flowers that are blue, purple, and every color in between. Will you create a dark moody path with border plantings of your Shock Wave Petunias? Or replicate the blue of the sky in your backyard garden with a vibrant collection of Easy Wave?  We encourage you to find new ways to use blues and purples in your home gardens with Wave Petunias, happy planting!
