Pink Pot Ambassador: August 2023
The Wave Crew  Wave Petunias | Cool Wave Pansies

Meet our Pink Pot Ambassador for August: @theorganizedhomemaker!

Describe your garden.
My flower garden is a large, colorful, tropical cottage garden of mostly perennials in the front and back yard of our home. I also have a large vegetable garden with 20 raised beds and several in-ground spaces for growing a variety of vegetables and fruit.

Tell us about the first time you ever gardened.
I grew up gardening with my parents on our family farm and throughout my childhood. Once I married, I began growing my own flowers first but soon added my own vegetables.

What is your favorite combination using Wave Petunias?
My Wave Petunias are planted in my large urns with coleus and dahlias (a nod to my tropical cottage) and artemisia along with creeping Jenny.

Share your secrets! What’s the best gardening hack you know?
I do a bit of maintenance daily, and as a result, I seldom have a huge chore to do. Also, buy plants that are in season, as they will bloom that year when planted.

Would You Rather… plant only red flowers or never see another red flower?
Plant only red flowers.  Red is one of my favorite colors!

Would You Rather… water your garden one cup of water at a time or only have one month of your flowers in bloom?
Water my garden one cup at a time. I need my blooms!

What is the best lesson you’ve learned through gardening?
Gardening takes time. Make a plan and work on it little by little, and you will be surprised how much you can accomplish.
Gardening also has taught me to roll with the punches.  There is so much that I cannot control, and as such things will happen, make the best of it and move forward.

Are there any gardening tips you’d give that are specific to gardening in Georgia or in Zone 7b?
Try to have all your garden chores done by 10:00 am to be safe in the hot months. Set your garden up to be on cruise control by the end of June, since July and August are our hottest months. Since we have mild winters, I work in my garden year-round. I mulch, prune, and plant during the winter, so come spring, I can do spring chores and hit the ground running.

Very helpful hints, such as, have your outdoor work completed by 10am. Even here in (zone 6) Pennsylvania it is hot and humid throughout the day. My leisurely coffee time must be curtailed!
